Paramount Chief Kyungu of Karonga and Chitipa districts has suggested that chiefs should be given control of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) to reduce fights over funds between Members of Parliament (MPs) and ward Councillors in the country.
The sentiments come at a time when MPs and Councillors are fighting over control of CDF in the country.
Commenting on matter, Paramount Chief Kyungu has suggested that chiefs must take over control of CDF to stop the fights which affect effectiveness of the funds.
Kyungu added that this will also help in ensuring equal share of development projects as chiefs are not politicians who tend to honour with developmental projects those people that voted for them during elections.
Meanwhile, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has embarked on advocacy on amendment of 2010 Local Government Act that will redefine roles of MPs and Councillors at local level.
