Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi has urged Karonga District Executive Committee (DEC) members to serve government with patriotism, integrity and a hardworking spirit.

Dausi said this when he was on tour to sensitize DEC members in the northern districts of Malawi on the recently enacted Access to Information (ATI) Act, Communications Act and Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act.

Dausi calls for patriotism.

The minister said there is need to be transparent and accountable.

“We came here (Karonga) to tell DEC member to be transparent and disclose everything because they serve people.

“People should be able to know and follow the development the council is doing,” Dausi added

Dausi said lazy and non-committed civil servants always tarnish the image of government and has since called on DEC members with such attitude to change their mindset.

“Civil servants have an obligation to serve government with patriotism, integrity and hardworking spirit towards the development of this country,” he said.

On his part, Karonga District Commissioner (DC) Richard Hara said enactment of Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Acts would reduce cases of corruption among people.
