Lions maul Moyale to continue fine form

The Zomba based soldiers’ excellent run of form in the Tnm Super League season is refusing to go to bed as they registered yet another vital win when they beat Moyale Barracks 2 nil at Zomba stadium on Sunday afternoon.

This win means Red Lions have now played 11 matches without registering a loss in the second round of the 2016 Tnm Super League.

The match started on an impressive note as both Red Lions and Moyale Barracks were in search for the opening goal in the opening minutes of the game but they all defended well.

Midway through the first half Red Lions started dominating possession of the match and the Zomba based soldiers were the ones who scored first through Innocent Bokosi before he found another goal to increase Red Lions’ lead.

After the recess, both Moyale Barracks and Red Lions continued demonstrating some good football. But it was Moyale Barracks who worked harder and their hard work was paid off when they were awarded a penalty inside the opening 20 minutes of the second half.

Captain Gastin Simkonda stepped up for the challenge but his spot kick was well saved by the Red Lions goalkeeper. From that moment, the Zomba based soldiers held on until the final whistle of the match and 2 nil it ended in their favour.

Speaking after the match, Red Lions coach Pritchard Mwansa was happy with the win whereas his opposite number Moyale Barracks coach conceded defeat.

In another Tnm Super League match played on Sunday, at Mzuzu stadium Dwangwa United have beaten Mzuni fc 3-1. Dwangwa United’s goals were scored by Hassan Upindi, Steve Madimba, and Jack China whereas Patrick Macheso pulled a goal back for Mzuni fc in the 72th minute of the match.

The win has pushed Dwangwa to position 12 on the table with 26 points from 25 matches and has boosted their survival hopes in the Tnm Super League with 4 games remaining to wind up their season.
