UMP awards nominations open Monday

The nominations to various categories of the flagship Urban Music Party (UMP) Music Awards start this Monday, 19th September 2016, Malawi24 can confirm.

The voting will run up until Wednesday 5 October and conclude Thursday 3 November 2016.

The event hits the skies of Blantyre on 6 November 2016 at the BAT Ground.

There will however be other activities a day before at several venues in the commercial city.

According to a statement signed by UMP Publicist, Kimpho Loka, there are 11 categories on the cards this year.

Nominations are open to talented artists and the music content that have done exceptionally well between the period of November 2015 to November 2016.

The categories are:

  1. Artist of the Year
  2. Song of the Year
  3. Producer of the Year
  4. Music Video Director of the Year
  5. Music Video of the Year
  6. Album of the Year
  7. Best Hip-hop/Rap Act
  8. Best Afro-Pop/R&B Act
  9. Best Dancehall/Reggae Act
  10. Best Gospel Artist
  11. Best New Artist.

 

Meanwhile, Radio 2 F.M’s DJ Joy Nathu, poet Qabaniso ‘Q’ Malewezi, arts journalist, Yvonne Sundu, Peter Chiwaula and Molowere Gwembere populary known as Molo have been named as judges.

But how will the nominations be like?

The nominations voting will commence on Monday 19 September 2016 and conclude on Monday 3 October 2016, with the objective of selecting five nominees per category. The public will send SMS texts to designated numbers on Airtel and TNM mobile networks (0994299099 and 0880549556): 1 SMS / 1 Category Vote. The judges and the public votes will be weighed and they will contribute 50:50 of the final selection.

The Judges will singly submit their preferred five nominees per category. The final results will be compiled by the UMP Festival executive team with a representative of the judges and the nominees announced to the public in readiness of the final voting.

Voting Process

The final voting will commence on Wednesday 5 October and conclude Thursday 3 November 2016, with the objective of selecting the final winner per category. The public will send SMS texts to designated numbers on Airtel and/or TNM mobile networks: 1 SMS / 1 Category Vote. The judges and the public votes will be weighed and they will respectively contribute 30:70 of the final vote.

The final results will be compiled by the UMP Festival executive team together with a representative of the judges and the winners announced on 6 November at the BAT Ground.

Ethics

Knowing the importance of the Awards to the artists, fans and the local urban music industry, the process will be conducted in an unbiased, transparent and fair manner to let the best persons win.
