The rookies were beaten 1-nil by Mzuni FC on Saturday before losing 2-nil to Moyale Barracks on Sunday afternoon to eventually leave Mzuzu City with nothing from their two games.

Defeat to the Soldiers was third in a row for Peter Mponda’s boys in the top flight.

The Mzuzu based Soldiers made the statement of intent when they scored in the first half before sealing the victory in the second half to send Wizards FC out of the City without a point.

Wizards: Get the beating in the North.

The visitors started the match on a high in the opening minutes by keeping possession but they were unable to unlock Moyale’s defence that was led by Ntompicho Njewa.

However, when the first half was coming to an end, Wizards lost concentration, allowing the hosts to find the back of the net, 1-0.

Khuda Muyaba almost doubled the hosts’ lead in the dying minutes of the match but Wizards shot-stopper intervened to save the situation for the rookies and the first half ended 1-nil.

After the interval, the Kaning’ina boys were in total control of the match, with Lovemore Jere and Gasten Simkonda all having their shots at goal in the opening minutes of the match but Wanipa Gondwe in goals for the rookies was very much alert to keep Wizards into the match.

At the other end, Jimmy Chikulekule released Isaac Mwale to the left flank of the field but his final decision allowed Moyale Barracks to clear the danger away for a corner.

Mzuni F.C beat Wizards on Saturday.

Just when Wizards thought they were slowly getting back into the game, the hosts doubled their lead following a defensive relapse by the rookies defenders, 2-0.

The goal completely dashed Mponda’s hopes of collecting atleast a point from the two outings as the Soldiers kept on pressing harder in search for more goals but Gondwe was a marvel to watch for the rookies.

Muyaba and Simkonda combined well to release Crispin Fukizi whose volley just missed the goal mouth with an inch and after 90 minutes of play, it ended 2-nil in favor of Moyale Barracks who had a week to forget after losing to Big Bullets 4-3 in the Presidential Cup final at Civo Stadium on 16th July.

The result sees Wizards FC collecting nothing from their Northern Region outing. The Chilomoni based side now sit on position 13 with 12 points from 14 games thus far.
