Malawian footballer dies after ‘bomb’ blast

A Malawian footballer Edward Nsamala who played for Dedza Young Soccer Saints in Dedza district has died after a feared grenade blast, Malawi24 has learnt.

According to sources, Nsamala had been given a metallic object by a friend to weld it into a club used by security.

Malawi24 understands that Nsamala had skills in welding and has a workshop which he run.

But while working on it, the metallic object blast onto the head of Nsamala and he suffered serious injuries.

He died while being taken to the hospital. Locals say the blast was like that of a bomb.

A Mozambican Lemison Juwawo who at the scene where he had gone repair his oxcart sustained injuries  is at Kamuzu Central Hospital, according to other reports.

At the moment, police have not provided full details on the matter.

His team is also yet to make a statement.

As this report was being compiled, the issue had already hit social media with the soccer fraternity expressing shock over the sad news.
