The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Blue League has strongly condemned the on-going abductions and killings of people with albinism saying it is a national shame.

In a statement made available to Malawi24, Blue League said it is shameful that a God-fearing nation has now turned into a superstitious country by killing people with albinism.

“It is a shame that a nation that has prided itself as a God-fearing for years is now turning superstitious. We are of the belief that few, selfish and unpatriotic Malawians are the ones wrongly representing Malawi to the world.”

“We wish to commend the Malawi Police for the efforts in curbing this malpractice. Out of the 66 cases reported, Police has arrested 69 suspects which are being prosecuted,” reads part of the statements.

The Blue League then asked Political parties, Non Governmental Organizations, churches, Civil Society Organizations and all Malawians to stand up and save innocent lives which are being hunted like animals.

The group also asked the judiciary to toughen up sentences and provide stiffer penalties to the culprits in order to discourage would-be offenders.

People with albinism are being abducted before being slaughtered like a butchered animal by unknown people for rituals.

  6. “…EVEN THEIR SOULS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REST IN PEACE AS THEIR DEAD BODIES ARE EXHUMED” UN envoy. What is surprising is the passiveness of the govt. to act boldly on this urgent issue. And we have these so called civil society organisations. Not even organising peaceful demonstrations to pressurise the authorities to act. Koma za mathanyula ndiye kulimbikira phokonso. Zikundiwawaaaa!

  12. Indeed its a shame since we r creating a bad international image of our own country.I think if such offenders r caught must be subjected to stiff penalties like life in prison with hard labour so that others must learn something from it and stay away from commiting similar cases. We must also understand that the law enforces can not work effectively alone to eradicate such inhuman act.Its therefor also our responsibility to work with the Malawi Police Service in helping to eradicate this act by reporting any rumours concerning the act.In this way we r creating a good Malawi of indeed a Warm Heart of Africa and God fearing nation

  20. Those that conduct body parts business, whether munthuyo ndi albino kapena ayi; komanso kugonana akazi/amuna okhaokha ndimachimo akulu akulu amene ifeyo aMalawi tikudana nawo kwambiri. tikakugwirani ochita zimenezi, chigamulo chake chiziperekedwa ndi khothi la mob justice, chifukwa paja second big man anatiuziratu kuti njoka saweta. and we will be excluding you from human beings. Ndinu oipa kwabasi mwinanso kuposa mbuyanu satan him selefu.

  21. My opinion: Government should introduce call police free, secondly police patrols in rular areas and opening substations thirdly roadbrocks/checkpoints should include checking those passing on foot and bikes, police should stop getting bribes on our roads with only 1000mkw one can penentrate through acheckpoint carrying dangerous laggage and involving the Malawi Defense Force officers to man some checkpoints can help to scare these devils because MDF officers are well trained and love their profession finally the government should trace and destroy in whatever way the markets for albinos

  22. Mwina simumadziwa:Ndi anthu ananyamulidwa mmimba miyezi 9,ndiye ndikupempha kuti ndalamayo mudye komanso musazafe, chifukwa tikati musiye kuwapha simukwanisa.

  23. The government must take serious measures to protect human albinos.
And should provide death penalty to anyone who attempt.

  24. Akazagwidwa opha albino nde wapolice wina azayelekeze kuletsa mobjustice, forsure we will include him or her(tizakuphelani limozi ndimbavayo). Ihope the massage is loud and clear.

  25. Kandoda Kampandila, albinos are victims here who are kidnapped and killed. Why should a victim be punished again by being put into a safe place? Let’s all condemn such behaviour by a commensurate outrage and the killers should be brought to book. Albinos are our children, our brothers and sisters have the right to live wherever they want.

    1. Prince: By safe guarding the albinos 2 put them in safe place doesn’t mean tht they’ll be in a prison. It is 4 their benefits. Malawi doesn’t have many police vehicles patrolling everywhere every time like South Africa. Like at night like this time in poor rural villages of Malawi kidnappers wth guns have got all freedom and time 2 do all evil without any distraction. For the mean time while safety measures are still discussed albinos are supposed 2b protected. Do u want 2 tell me tht school kids who are at boarding schools they are in prison? I did my school at St. John’s Sec. School in Lilongwe. It’s a boarding school wth a fence surrounding the whole area. We were under the school guards. No intruder could enter our yard without permission. I never felt like I was in prison. I enjoyed all my days there. There was freedom inside. Food, football, prayers and whatever happiness we wanted was there. The fence and the guards were 4 our safety! Albinos 4 now need such place. Ur solution is not so concrete coz right now as we speak u never knw wht happens in a very remote area there. Had it be that our friends(albinos) are in a safe place now I wouldn’t worry at this hour. Right now I’m at panic coz I can’t save any one if something is happening. ALBINOS MUST BE PUT IN A SAFETY PLACE JUST 4 NOW UNTIL WE FIND THE ORIGINAL SOLUTION 2 FINISH THE ACT OF THE CULPRITS.That’s not prison and it’s not tht they’ll stay like tht the rest of their lives. We just need the wind 2 pass then they’ll be free once more after we’ve established valuable plans 4 them.

    2. Prince: Not all kidnappers can be caught! We need 2 save every albino soul here. Imagine at this time of the night in a poor far rural village of Malawi if an armed kidnapper can go there in the dark, Can the villagers arrest the kidnapper in the middle of the night? This is why I still stick 2 my point that for now these albinos must be kept in a safety place while we are still pounding our heads 2 find measures 2 end the tragedy. As time goes by the albinos will go back 2 their villages and live normally again. For now they need 2b looked after by well trained people 2 protect them rather than just 2 stay randomly in the unsecured villages while they are the most wanted. The village I come from in Malawi has got only 1 police station wth no vehicle and there is no electricity. Policemen use bicycles as means of transport. There’s only 1 gun at the whole police unit. How cn they arrest armed kidnappers wth Ak47 on their car during their operation 2 win the albino? U can travel about 100km 2 find a bigger town wth better resources. It’s not safe there at all.

    3. Its a very complex issue which needs all of us to ask ourselves tough questions. It is a problem which has so many layers, it connects both social and cultural meltdown.

  26. DPP is in power now and has all the machinery and influence to stop this stupid belief that charms made of bones of people suffering from albinism will make one rich. Stop the chat and Show us the works of your hands. The Police, Courts and Prisons are in your hands now. This has to stop. Get the Security apparatus working.

  30. President of Malawi must give an order that all Albinos must be collected from all regions of Malawi for the mean time and be put in 1 safe place under heavily armed soldiers. It’s high time now a solution must be found. We can’t just be crying but without taking any action. This is a serious matter! If they got no money 2 buy blankets and food they must ask 4 hand outs and donations from organisations and well wishers like me. I’ll be the first one 2 take out wht I can afford. Security and safety in Malawi are not 2 good. It’s very easy 4 these people 2b kidnapped. They need there4 to stay in a 1 heavily secured place. Malawi is a small country, I don’t think that these albinos can be 2 many that we can fail 2 help them. I guess they can’t even be more than 30000. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE QUICKLY!
