‘Killings of albinos is a shame to Malawi’

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Blue League has strongly condemned the on-going abductions and killings of people with albinism saying it is a national shame.

In a statement made available to Malawi24, Blue League said it is shameful that a God-fearing nation has now turned into a superstitious country by killing people with albinism.

“It is a shame that a nation that has prided itself as a God-fearing for years is now turning superstitious. We are of the belief that few, selfish and unpatriotic Malawians are the ones wrongly representing Malawi to the world.”

“We wish to commend the Malawi Police for the efforts in curbing this malpractice. Out of the 66 cases reported, Police has arrested 69 suspects which are being prosecuted,” reads part of the statements.

The Blue League then asked Political parties, Non Governmental Organizations, churches, Civil Society Organizations and all Malawians to stand up and save innocent lives which are being hunted like animals.

The group also asked the judiciary to toughen up sentences and provide stiffer penalties to the culprits in order to discourage would-be offenders.

People with albinism are being abducted before being slaughtered like a butchered animal by unknown people for rituals.
