The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court on May 3 2016 has sentenced
two men to 5 years imprisonment with hard each for killing animals in
Nkhotakota Game Reserve without permit contrary to Section 35 of the
Parks and Wildlife Act.

CourtThe court heard that the two men, Mateyu Jefula, 35, of Gaweni Village
and Mafukeni Chithonje, 29, of Msendekera Village, all from T/A
Nthondo in Ntchisi on April 23 2016 illegally entered into Nkhotakota
Game Reserve without permit and killed two bush pigs without

Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua said the two
deserve a custodial sentence saying there is loss of fauna and flora
which lead to retarded growth of Malawian tourism and less
development, loss of centres of education to the Malawian youth and
loss of foreign currency due to killing of animals and cutting down of
trees.
