Revered Father John Alphonsus Ryan appointed Mzuzu diocese Bishop.

Leader of the Catholic Church in the world Pope Francis has appointed Revered Father John Alphonsus Ryan as the new Catholic Bishop for Mzuzu Diocese.

Announcing this in Vatican, Pope Francis said Ryan will take the role of the Bishop following the death of Joseph Mukasa Zuza who passed away on January 15 last year.

Ryan who is a missionary priest of Society of Saint Patricks has been in Malawi since 1978.

As part of his missionary work in the country, Ryan works as a lecture at Mzuzu University. He is currently a Professor of Mathematics and Departmental Chair of Mathematics Department at the university.

Meanwhile Reverend Father Michael Muwowo remains the administrator of Mzuzu diocese until the new bishop is consecrated.
