The Malawi Government has refuted reports that there is drug shortage in public hospitals, saying it has enough medicines unlike in the past months when drugs were in short supply in the hospitals.
Minister of health Peter Kumpalume said the Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST) has enough medicine in its stores and Malawians will not have problems in accessing drugs anymore.
“We have enough medicine in our stores unlike in the past few months so Malawians will not have problems anymore,” said Kumpalume.
He however said that the challenge they are facing is drug theft but government is making strides to make sure that medicines in the stores are kept safe.
He also expressed gratitude to the general public because they had been tipping authorities on people who are stealing drugs and most of those arrested have faced the law.
But Kumpalume’s claims comes as reports continue to show that the country’s hospitals are still grappling with shortage of drugs.
