The Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has called on political parties to curb political violence, arguing that the misconducts disturb the peace Malawi is known for.
The remarks follow a fracas during a joint rally by Malawi Congress Party (MCP), People’s Party (PP) and Alliance for Democracy (Aford) at Chibavi ground in Mzuzu. During the fracas, thugs injured some members of the three parties.
Speaking to members of press at the launch of advocacy on electoral reforms in Blantyre, MESN board chairperson Stevie Duwa said political violence should stop.
The board chairperson also warned political parties against using the youths to perpetrate violence in the country.
MESN has since urged government to start preparing for the 2019 general elections as one way of dealing with challenges that mar polls in the country.
