President Peter Mutharika has vowed to deal with thugs who abduct albinos and those who tamper with graves of albinos.
The Malawi leader made the declaration on Friday at Nchalo in Chikwawa during a development rally which attracted thousands of Malawians.
Mutharika said the abduction and killing of people with albinism shocks him and vowed to deal with perpetrators.
“Stop violating the rights of people with albinism and I repeat that you should stop, when you are caught we will not feel sorry but you will rot in jail.
“Even those who cheat that people can do well using albino remains are not well to do, so I want to tell you that it’s ignorant to practice such and ndi zausiru zimenezo (it’s stupid),” Mutharika fumed.
In his remarks Paramount chief Lundu urged other chiefs to condemn the behaviour of people who violate other people’s rights.
“As chiefs we condemn the behaviour of chopping other people’s private parts and I urge you chiefs to be at the forefront to deal with the inhuman behaviour.
“Let’s report to police any suspicious attempt,” Lundu explained.
The killings of albinos and incidents of people tampering with graves of albinos have been on the rise over the past months and police have made several arrests in connection to the attacks.
