A teacher at Namiwawa private secondary school in the commercial city of Blantyre has died after excessively taking alcohol, Police say.

The deceased, James Banda, 44, died after drinking alcohol at Chilomoni market on Sunday.

Blantyre police deputy spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said one of the deceased’s relations told police that Banda collapsed while he was walking.

“The deceased’s relation Dymon Mhango reported that he collapsed on his way home and he was rushed to Chilomoni health centre where he was pronounced died,” said Mayawo.

Meanwhile, the cause of the death is yet to be established.

The deceased hailed from Mbachudu village, Sub-Traditional Authority (TA) Munyanja in Kasungu district.
