Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera says the Peter Mutharika government has failed and it is only the opposition who can take Malawi away from the fire it is in.

Chakwera made the remarks at Chibavi primary school ground in Mzuzu where the alliance of Chakwera, Enock Chihana and Hon. Kamlepo Kalua organized a rally.

Even though the rally was messed up by some youths carrying pangas who are believed to be Democratic Progressive Party cadets, Chakwera still shared his ambitions for Malawi.

He said whether someone like it or not, come 2019 the opposition will win and rescue this country.

“We want to save this country from hunger, corruption, lack of jobs and quota system,” said Chakwera.

He further condemned quota system as the main cause of injustice. “Because of quota system, many people are illiterate and politicians take advantage of people’s illiteracy and corrupt them with little money to cause violence like what we have seen.

“But dont worry, the oppostion will end the illiteracy relationship that is there between Malawi and its people,” added MCP president.

He also questioned government as to why they are buying pangas for violence instead of buying maize for the hungry Malawians.

Chakwera has promised to visit the north again and hopes there will be peace.

The Mutharika administration has been accused of being responsible for the current hunger situation as well maize crisis in the country among others.

But the calls by the opposition for Mutharika to step down have been shrugged off by the Malawi leader who says the calls are politically driven and not for the good of the nation.
