Police in Machinga district on Monday arrested a 35 year-old man for killing his former wife.
Eastern Region police spokesperson, Otiliya Kumanga, identified the suspect as Yohan Gonani who murdered his ex-wife Anne Mchuma.
Kumanga said after the couple divorced, the man told his children that he will one day kill the woman due to the split, saying that it will be his revenge.
On Sunday night, Mchuma slept at her friend’s house after the children told her about the death threats.
On Monday in the morning the deceased left for her house to open up for her chickens.
On the way, she met her former husband who was carrying a panga and a stick. The man attacked Mchuma and she died on the spot.
The matter was later reported to the police who rushed to the scene and nabbed the suspect.
Gonani hails from Kaudzu village in the area of Traditional Authority Liwonde in Machinga district and is expected to appear before court soon to answer the charge of murder.
