Kabwila is said to have taken refugee at Germany Embassy

Reports reaching Malawi24 news desk indicate that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson, Jessie Kabwila, and MCP’s Legal Adviser, Peter Louis Chakhwantha have finally been nabbed.

Reports indicate that Kabwila was arrested at Germany Embassy where she sought refugee while Chakhwantha was arrested on his way from Parliament. The two are kept at undisclosed location.

MCP Parliamentarian for Dedza East, Juliana Lunguzi, confirmed the arrest of Kabwila and Chakhwantha.

The two join Ulemu Msungama who was arrested yesterday and charged with sedition. He was granted bail today.

The three are accused of plotting to remove President Peter Mutharika in reminiscent of the ‘Arab Spring’. The charges are based on a thread of WhatsApp messages in

Earlier, the police had mounted a roadblock  near the entrance of the parliament building in Lilongwe as they were racing against time to the two MCP officials.

Social commentators have accused President Peter Mutharika of persecuting political opponents.
