The Malawi leader Peter Mutharika is facing an inside rebellion from within government, an activist has warned.

In a Facebook post activist Ben Chiza Mkandawire has said that the government of Peter Mutharika was slowly losing popularity among top technocrats in the country who have been seen to be associating with the leader of opposition Lazarus Chakwera.

Mkandawire posted after what he claims to have been Principal Secretaries of unnamed ministries who were at Kamuzu International Airport to welcome the opposition leader on his return from USA.

“In plain view, I saw a number of PSs (Principal Secretaries) and senior government officials among the VIPs that were at the airport to welcome Chakwera,” he posted indicating that some officials in government were pledging allegiance to the leader of opposition.

The remarks have come at a time that reports have surfaced alleging that the MCP leader is plotting to overthrow the government of Peter Mutharika which is losing popularity owing to its failure to contain the hunger situation.

When it was put to him if he was alleging that the ‘coup’ being talked about in the online media, Mkandawire was coy commenting but indicated that coups are orchestrated from inside throughout history.

He then urged state President Peter Mutharika to evaluate his power grip arguing he is slowly losing it.
