Kapito: Maize price should be set.

The Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) has asked government to set low price for maize in order for people to afford the staple food.

Currently, a 50 Kg bag of maize is going at K5500 Kwacha at Agriculture Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) depots whilst vendors are selling it at the price of 13,000 Kwacha.

CAMA Executive Director John Kapito said government should set low price for maize and should make maize to be accessible to rural residents.

”There is need for government to set an affordable price for people to easily access it at an affordable price,” said Kapito.

Recently, government warned vendors who are buying more maize at the Admarc depots and selling at exorbitant prices that they will face the law.
