Acting president of the People’s Party (PP) Uladi Mussa says the current hunger situation in the Malawi is due to lack of planning and coordination by the Peter Mutharika led government.

Mussa (L) says Mutharika (R) lacks planning skills.

Speaking to the local media, Mussa described the shortage of maize in the country as due to lack of timing and lack of coordination with important organizations.

“There is no coordination with the World Food Programme who can help, as the country is struggling to provide enough maize in Admarc (Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation) markets,” Mussa said.

Mussa who was once minister of agriculture said government need to take farming as a business by providing farm inputs so that Malawians can grow crops more than two times a year and have plenty of food.

Currently, Malawians are struggling to access maize in Admarc depots across the country. In some areas people are buying the staple food at 5Kgs per person per day contrary to a set policy of 20Kgs per person on a day.

However, President Peter Mutharika and his cabinet members continue to insist that no person will die of hunger in the country.
