Former Malawi national football team coach, Kinnah Phiri, has been appointed as head coach of Mbeya FC of Tanzania.
Phiri who helped Mzuni FC to survive relegation in the Super League last season, was announced as new coach for the club on Friday.
Mbeya City FC general secretary, Emmanuel Kimbe, could not hide the club’s happiness over the coming in of Phiri.
“We are all delighted to hire such an experienced coach, it is our expectation that he will bring a lot to our team,” he said.
The general secretary further added that they know it is hard for Phiri to bring in silverware this season.
“It is unrealistic to expect that he will bring silverware this season, but at least we hope that Mbeya will get back to its best form,” he told a Tanzanian newspaper.
The former Free State Stars coach has taken up the post immediately and his first assignment in the Tanzanian Vodacom Premier League is on Sunday when his side play city rivals, Tanzania Prisons.
