FAM plays host to Fifa seminar

The world soccer governing body, Fifa has entrusted Malawi through the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) with an important seminar involving 15 countries.

Sports minister Grace Chiumia officially opened the five day seminar for technical directors (TD) at Chiwembe Technical Centre on Monday morning.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Chiumia said TDs are vital for the development of football in the world.

“It’s very important for the technical directors to have high level knowledge and skills so that they are able to develop the beautiful game of football. This workshop will enable them to learn new things and in the process improve the level of football everywhere,” said Chiumia.

In his remarks, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu hailed Fifa for choosing Malawi as a host country.

“This is first of its kind. We are greatly honoured to host this seminar. This workshop will enable our TDs to undertake advanced strategies towards the development of football because they will be interacting with each other.

“Let me also take this opportunity in thanking Fifa for choosing us as a host nation, it’s an honour. Let me also thank Fifa for showing commitment in building the beautiful game of football in African national associations,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Fifa, the organisation’s Head of Technical Department Jurg Nepfer said TDs are important in the management of football.

He said: “This type of seminar helps various associations to improve and stay at par with others. It’s important for the soccer governing body to interact with various football associations to aid in the development agenda of our game.”  

 

TDs from South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Seychelles, Ethiopia, Zambia and Tanzania are some of the participants at the workshop which will end on Friday.
