Malawi Police officers in the southern district of Mangochi are reported to have been sending thugs to steal from people at night in the district.
According to reports, the officers have been giving thugs a list of people believed to have property worth millions of Kwacha in the district so that the thugs should steal from the residents. The cops assure the thugs that they will have a police bail once they are arrested.
After a spate of robberies in the district, residents embarked on a sweeping exercise that led to the arrest of two suspects who mentioned some police officers as their crime bosses.
Mangochi Police spokesperson Rodric Mayida confirmed the development but refused to mention the names of the officers involved.
Meanwhile, residents of Mangochi have threatened to take laws into their hands if the officers are not arrested and dragged to court.
