Mutharika: Ta evasion is driving us back.

“You know when we had everything in place we could not need a penny outside the country but due to these malpractices that is why we always cry for help, but I would like to assure you we will hunt all the all people behind these malpractices” said Mutharika.

Mutharika further said that the malpractice is fuelling some shakeups in the implementation of developmental projects in the country.

Malawi government through the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) implemented the Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) Project as one way of dealing with tax evasion on the land.

Despite the efforts to curb tax invasion through the EFD projects, reports reveal that some business operators fail to give customers a receipt from the EFD machine to deliberately misrepresent the true state of their affairs to the tax authorities and to reduce their tax liability.
