Malawi President Peter Mutharika has warned individuals, corporations, and trusts against evasion of taxes by in the country.

Speaking on the state broadcaster through a program called ‘Talk to the President’ oover the weekend, Mutharika argued that Malawi would not be relying on donors if people were responsible in paying tax.

Peter Mutharika
Mutharika: Ta evasion is driving us back.

“You know when we had everything in place we could not need a penny outside the country but due to these malpractices that is why we always cry for help, but I would like to assure you we will hunt all the all people behind these malpractices” said Mutharika.

Mutharika further said that the malpractice is fuelling some shakeups in the implementation of developmental projects in the country.

Malawi government through the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) implemented the Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) Project as one way of dealing with tax evasion on the land.

Despite the efforts to curb tax invasion through the EFD projects, reports reveal that some business operators fail to give customers a receipt from the EFD machine to deliberately misrepresent the true state of their affairs to the tax authorities and to reduce their tax liability.

Managers, malawi wasn’t ready for efds point blank

  2. THE PROBLEM ARE MRA EMPLOYEES. CHECK THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS, PROPERTY. THESE DO NOT MATCH WITH THEIR SALARIES. THRU CORRUPT PRACTICES THEY DEAL WITH PEOPLE INCLUDING THOSE OF ASAIAN ARIGIN. THEY PAY AFTER WORK. THIS IS REAL. CHECK IT OUT.

A Chinyama Phiri still colonized mind, break the chains, I agree with the fact that politicians should start themselves paying tax. poor people in our Villages are paying tax through consumer goods, yet you taking the lion’s share of our taxes live comfortably not paying the needed tax? hypocrisy

  5. You too Mr president and your ministers and those who surrounds you, you have to start paying taxes, and custom duties

  6. APM may be you start by hunting yourself. Every thing for you is tax free>salary, water, electricity, food, laundry, toiletvan, accomodation, transport to and fro.,security, ma units a
    airtel/tnm/mtl, the list is endless.

  7. hunting is the order of lomwe government why? Malwai can not sustain itself it is a poor government with it’s leaders thieves and selfish, there is no way Malawi can handle it affairs without donors, we need an intelligent leader to do that not a fool like Mutharika who doesn’t know anything who failed to run a ministry as a cabinet minister, you will say these are insults but they are facts. his brother was intelligent than him he failed what about him? Kamuzu was very good but he couldn’t do without donors so don’t lie to people learn to tell people truth and reduce sins

  8. Speaking only won’t help as malawians are better at listening that doing what they’re told…just hunt for these non-tax-payers and decide what next…
