Malawi netball star, Mwai Kumwenda, has taken a lead in International World Games Association (IWGA) athlete of the year voting, the association has confirmed.
According to information that Malawi24 has seen from the association’s official website, Mwai has 540 more than the second placed candidate.
After ten days of voting, the Malawian netballer had 3035 votes while the Russian dance couple, Dmitry Zharkov and Olga Kulikova, were on second position with 2488 votes.
They are followed by the Flying Disc Beach Ultimate Mixed team from Germany on third slot with 1570. However, the Association has made it clear that as of now the competition is still wide open.
“The title race is still open. When it comes to choosing the IWGA athlete/team of the year, the decisive vote has not yet been cast,” said the Association.
Currently, the voting process is underway until 31st January 2016 and anyone is allowed to vote once a day.
The 2015 Netball World Cup Player of the tournament was nominated among 18 candidates to compete for IWGA athlete of the year of 2015 award.
