Woman fined K45,000 for biting upper lip of a fellow woman

The Ntchisi Second Grade Magistrate Court has ordered 34-year-old Malawian lady identified as Efrida Phiri to pay a fine of K45,000 or to serve 5 months in jail for biting the upper lip of another woman.

CourtThe court heard that the two women had joined a village savings and loans association (Banki Mnkhonde) which is in their village but Phiri also joined another association in another village hence she was a member of two village savings and loans groups.

However, the convict heard that the victim, Loveness Mateyu, 25, was spreading lies about her to other members of the association so she became furious and confronted Mateyu.

A fight then broke out between the two and in the course of the fight; Phiri bit Mateyu’s upper lip.

Police charged Phiri with unlawful wounding and in court she pleaded guilty to the charges.

Both the victim and the convict hail from Zanyunda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi.
