Man to serve 10 years in jail for violent crime

Arrested.A 29 year-old Malawian man in Ntchisi has been handed a 10-year jail term for stealing maize and stabbing the owner with a sharp knife.

Police in Ntchisi nabbed the man, Hejasi Tchale, after he was suspected of stealing maize belonging to Jonasi Sitola and stabbing him seven times on the arm.

According to police, the incident happened on the night of 17 November this year when the convict went to the house of Jonasi and stole a bag of maize. After hearing a strange sound, the owner started chasing after Tchale.

However, the convict stopped after running for a distance and the two started scrambling for the bag of maize. It was during the scramble that Tchale produced a knife and stabbed Jonasi seven times on the arm.

Tchale hails from Chipoka village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi district.
