The fairytale continues to unfold for Mwawi Kumwenda as she has succeeded Ivorian footballer Yaya Toure as Airtel’s brand ambassador for “it’s now” campaign.

Airtel Malawi acting managing director, Charles Kamoto, confirmed the news yesterday. He said they have been driven by the hope that she is going to make a positive change.

The campaign is aimed at empowering the youth in different aspects. The “it’s now” slogan serves to challenge the youth that this is the right time to act if they are to achieve their dreams just like the sports personality associated, in this regard Mwawi Kumwenda.

Kumwenda is indeed in her harvesting season as she scooped two awards last year; player of the tournament at the 2015 Australia Netball World Cup and Malawi sports personality of the year award. She has also recently been nominated for athlete of the year honour by International World Games Association (IWGA).

In reaction to her appointment by Airtel, Kumwenda has been posting pictures on social media which shows her in Airtel white and red colours while holding a ball.

The 27 year-old is the country’s sole netball export and is currently plying her trade with a New Zealand club. She falls in the line of influential sports people in Africa as evidenced by her ambassadorial role at Airtel.
