National Organisation for Nurses and Midwives (NONM) has said that since government is not employing newly graduated nurses, the organization will find jobs for the nurses outside the country.

Government withdrew the employment of newly recruited doctors saying that it had no money for their salaries.

President of NONM Dorothy Ngoma said government should have employed the nurses with the few resources it has as that would have been better.

“We are going to find jobs for the nurses outside the country since government cannot employ them and we have done it before. This is what we are planning to do,” said Ngoma.

She further said that the nurses are needed outside the country so they do not have to be jobless.

Previously, NONM executive director Harriet Kapyepye said the withdrawal of the employment of the doctors will cripple health delivery in hospitals.

World Health Organisation recommends that a doctor should attend to 1000 patients but this is not the case in Malawi’s hospitals as one doctor attends to 3000 patients.
