People’s Party (PP) spokesperson Ken Msonda has told the Malawi Law Society (MLS) to go to hell after the body condemned his Facebook post in which he said gay people should be killed.

In the Facebook post, Msonda described gay practice as “sinful” and said that gays do not deserve any human rights and therefore they should be lynched.

Reacting to Msonda’s remarks, MLS called on authorities to take action on the PP spokesperson arguing that the remarks can fuel public violence against fellow citizens.

MLS president John Suzi Banda also asked the Malawi Human Rights Commission and police in the country to investigate the remarks that have since attracted criticism.

Msonda: Has stuck to his views.

“First of all his comment to kill gay people is very dangerous and it is hate speech, I wonder which constitution  he is reading and who is directing him because the constitution forbids stigma,” said Banda.

However, Msonda has maintained that whatever he said was not a “slip of his tongue”.

“Which Law society are you talking about; do we have law society in Malawi? Why did they not jump in when a gay couple was arrested in Lilongwe and tell the president what to do.

“Whatever I said is not a slip of my tongue, gay practice remains sinful and God can condemn this nation if it is to be legalized, go back to them and tell them to go to hell,” said Msonda.

Same sex marriages remain a controversial issue in Malawi as different views from stakeholders continue to float.
