The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) through its disciplinary committee has fined Epac FC and Dedza Young Soccer following improper conducts during their last match of the season last month.
The two teams played out a relegation showdown last year in which Epac won and survived relegation but before kick-off, the hosts’ supporters blocked the visiting team from using the dressing room.
Sulom’s disciplinary committee held a meeting at Lilongwe Hotel on 31 December and fined Epac K450,000 for failure to control the actions of supporters who blocked the visitors from using the dressing room Epac were also fined K350,000 after they were found guilty of bringing the game of football into disrepute, contravening article 14 of Sulom’s constitution and article 21 (16) of the body’s rules and regulations.
On the other hand, Dedza who were relegated after losing the match, were slapped with a fine of K500,000 for refusing to use the dressing room at half time when the storm had been calmed by officials therefore bringing the game of football into disrepute.
Both teams have been told to pay the fines before any official match, be it a league or a cup match.
