For the first time in the history of Malawi, Super League referees will get individual awards for  officiating in 2015 season.

Confirming the development, Super League of Malawi (SULOM) general secretary, Williams Banda, said the sponsors thought it wise to do so.

“This season it has pleased the sponsors for our top flight league to give awards to everyone involved in the game of soccer including referees,” said Banda.

The general secretary for SULOM further revealed that a sub-committee for referees will be responsible for selecting the outstanding referees.

“The task for selecting the outstanding referees has been given to sub-committee for referees in the country,” said Banda.

General secretary for National Referees Association, Chris Kalichero, has thanked the sponsors for the development though he said his association has not received official communication.

“We have not received the official communication about this issue but if it is real then we are very grateful,” said Kalichero.

Kalichero added that the initiative for awarding referees will increase the competition among them.

“This will increase competition among referees to follow all the football rules properly in order at the end to get the award,” explained Kalichero.
