Relegation threatened and Malawi super league rookies Fisd Wizards have beaten Airborne Rangers 2-0 to collect three points in a match played on Sunday afternoon at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.
Patrick Phiri was the hero of the day after scoring a brace for Wizards to keep the team’s hopes of escaping the relegation zone in the 2015 Super league.
Before the match, Fisd Wizards Coach Peter Mponda had warned Rangers that his team was well prepared to win and they proved it after securing vital three points.
The match started at a slow pace as both sides were playing a more defensive game in order to avoid conceding an early goal.
After a few minutes, Wizards took control of the ghame and it was not a surprise seeing Phiri taking his side up with a goal. Come the second half, Rangers through Josaya Duwa and Kefas Zimba were playing more attacking football.
But 9 minutes into the second half Phiri scored another goal for Wizards to make it 2-0. Airborne tried to look for goals but luck was not on their side and Wizards had a strong defence led by their captain Levison Maganizo.
After 90 minutes of regulation time it was Fisd Wizards 2-0 Airborne Rangers.
Speaking in a post match interview, Fisd Wizards Coach Peter Mponda said his boys deserved a win today.
“I think my boys deserved the three point because our finishing today was much better said,” said Mponda.
While Airborne Coach Kondwani Gawani said that they will work on mistakes for next games.
” we will work on our mistakes when we go back to the drawing board for us to do better in next matches,” said Gawani.
Despite the win, Wizards are still on the bottom of the table with 14 points even Airborne is still on position 3 from the bottom with 17 points.
