Hassan Chapola’s first half lone goal was enough to end Silver Strikers 100 percent winning record in the second round of Malawi’s elite league at Silver stadium in Lilongwe on Thursday.
Mafco fc were coming from a 3 nil defeat at the hands of their brothers in arms Moyale Barracks last week where as their opponents were coming from a 4 nil win over Epac fc last Saturday.
The match started on a higher note this afternoon at Silver stadium as both Mafco and Silver were in search for their crucial 3 points that could have help them to reduce the points gap to within 7 points or 6 points with log leaders Big Bullets fc who are leading the table with 41 points.
But it was Hassan Chapola who scored to put Mafco fc a head after he scored a beauty past the Silver Strikers goalkeeper Blessings Kameza.
After that goal Silver Strikers started pressing for an equalizer but the Salima based soldiers Mafco fc defenders, defended well as they did not allow the bankers to put the ball into the back of the net and the first half ended 1-0 in favor of Mafco fc.
Come second half Silver Strikers come in with fresh ideas and they started the half by on a higher note and they pressurized Mafco fc defense as they were in search for an earl goal in the opening minutes of the half.
Peter Wadabwa and Green Harawa both had a cap of scoring chances but they kept on wasting the Silver Strikers as they failed to turn them into goals.
Mafco fc again started dominating the match with some excellent passing game that completely gave pressure on the bankers who were searching for an equalizing goal of the match.
In the dying minutes of the game Silver Strikers again pressurized the Salima based soldiers Mafco fc as they were still in search for an equalizing goal that could have helped the teams to share the spoils, but the match ended 1 nil in favour of Mafco fc.
The win has moved Mafco to position 2 on the log table and they have closed the gap of point to within 7 points with leaders big Bullets fc. where as the lose has move Silver Strikers to position 3 from 2 on the log table of Malawi elite league.
