The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) says the five day ultimatum it gave government to reveal the names of over 100 people who accompanied President Peter Mutharika expired on Wednesday.

There has been a battle between MCP and government over the issue that government took a bloated delegation to the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

MCP spokesperson Jessie Kabwila said government has failed to publish the names of the entourage alongside companies who sponsored them meaning that government knows that they used taxpayers’ money.

”We are trying to hold government accountable and transparent and we are hopeful that government will comply and we will communicate the reply to Malawians,” said Kabwila.

On government’s part, Minister of information Jappie Mhango said that government will not bow down to MCP’s call for it to publish the names as president Mutharika already responded that some people were sponsored by the UN.
