Furious looking, Malawi President Peter Mutharika yesterday maintained that his critics have no basis to demand his resignation saying he is not ready to do that because the calls are based on malice.

While addressing the press at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on his controversial trip to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly, the Malawi leader fumed with reports that the Civil Society demands his head over the reported 115 delegates he picked for the summit.

After reports that the Malawi leader took along with him a large number of people when only 6 got invited, activists and the opposition have been telling the media that Mutharika is a failure and therefore deserved to resign to prevent the country from a fallout.

Mutharika: Rails at critics.

According to Mutharika, it was not true that he picked the claimed number of people to the US, while saying that the people he took, whom reports now say were 18 were not using Malawi government’s money.

“Am not going to step down and tell who ever that’s want me to resign that there is no reason for this.” Mutharika reacted.

The Malawi leader then railed at the media for what he called ‘irresponsible’ reporting about his trip and demanded an apology in the same vein.

While commenting on the recent economic crisis in Malawi, Mutharika who was also accused of blowing millions of taxpayers money by hiring an expensive jet, he said that all what was being said about his government was out of malice.

“I heard the jet was just sitting in Dubai by this irresponsible radio station and also by spokesperson of Malawi Congress Party (MCP). This is completely false and they owe me an apology. I never rented a Jet to USA; I rented for five and half hour to go to Dubai. From there I took the commercial flight,” explained the Malawi Leader.
