FAM to introduce U-16 Women football league

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has disclosed plans to introduce under 16 women football league in the country next year.

FAM Technical Director John Kaputa revealed this on Sunday during this years southern region FIFA women FAM cup finals played at Chiwembe ground in Blantyre.

Kaputa said women’s football in the country is making strides but need to start in grass roots to nurture quality players.

“Women football in the country need to start with the youth. As FAM we already have plans to introduce youth leagues. By next we are going to have under 16 women’s league. We need to have quality players so that they should qualify into senior team while they are mature,” Kaputa said.

Kaputa further said that he was expressed concern with how women football in the country is growing but was quick to ask stakeholders to come and support the leagues across the country.

During the finals BT Zero emerged winners after beating their rivals Ntopwa super Queens by a goal to nil.

Both BT zero and Ntopwa qualifed for the National finals where they will meet other teams from Northern and central region respectively.

As winners BT Zero received K400 000 while runners up Ntopwa grabbed K200 000.
