Zomba City South legislator James Mpunga has warned DPP supporters against fighting among themselves, saying internal divisions could weaken the party in the constituency.

Mpunga said supporters should stop discriminating against one another and instead work together to strengthen the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and push development in the constituency.

He described the supporters as one family and said his goal is to make the DPP stronger in Zomba City South than it was in the past.

Mpunga was speaking at Thundu Primary School during a rally organised to thank voters for electing him as their Member of Parliament.

The MP also pledged to deliver on development promises he made during the campaign.

He listed road construction and rehabilitation, school construction, provision of safe water and vocational skills training for young people among the projects he intends to pursue.

Mpunga also praised his working relationship with ward councillors, saying their cooperation has helped development activities move forward.

But he raised concern over attempts by some people to create divisions between him and the councillor for Mpira Ward.

> “There is no disagreement between me and the councillor for Mpira Ward. However, there is a group of people who are trying to divide us. I am asking them to please stop what they are doing,” said Mpunga.

During the rally, Mpunga presented motorcycles to DPP District Governor Twaliki and Constituency Governor Lex Mulaliki.

He also donated bicycles to other party supporters.

The legislator urged people in the constituency to become self-reliant and contribute to development instead of depending entirely on political leaders.

DPP Eastern Region Youth Director Steven Bamusi also called on supporters to remain united and keep the party open to new members.

Bamusi, who is also Mbeza Ward councillor, praised Mpunga for his charitable and development activities, saying he supports people without discrimination.

Mulaliki thanked Mpunga for the motorcycle, saying the donation would motivate him to work harder in advancing DPP activities in the constituency.
