Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 53 year old man after detectives foiled an attempted theft of metal plates worth K10 million
The suspect, identified as Collins Chibwana, was arrested on October 4, 2026, after detectives ambushed a group of suspected thieves who had broken into the Chaser Construction Company warehouse in Area 28 where he was allegedly preparing to steal the metal plates.
Kanengo Police Deputy Public Relations Linly Mwale said police launched the operation after receiving information that criminals were planning to break into the warehouse.
According to Mwale, at around 9pm, four suspected criminals armed with burglar bars and crowbars broke through the main gate and entered the warehouse, where they started arranging the metal plates for removal.
She said a three tonne Daihatsu motor vehicle, registration number KU 700, later entered the premises, and the suspects began loading the metal plates onto the vehicle.
“Detectives then moved in and managed to arrest the driver, while the other suspects escaped,” said Mwale.
Chibwana, who hails from Chilundula Village under Traditional Authority Nsomba in Blantyre District, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges relating to the attempted theft.
