Two Mozambican nationals are in police custody after being found with four firearms in Chikwawa.
According to the Malawi Police Service (MPS) public relations officer Senior Superintendent Gladys Chiwawula, the suspects have been identified as Julio Aromado, 25, and Steven George, 30.
Senior Superintendent Chiwawula said the two were arrested on Sunday after allegedly trying to bypass Kamuzu Bridge Roadblock.
Their actions reportedly raised suspicion among police officers, who stopped and searched them.
Police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two Star pistols and a Heckler & Koch firearm.
The officers also found a pick, a panga knife and a pound hammer in their possession.
Chiwawula said the two are being held by police as investigations continue.
