An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission team has returned to Malawi for fresh discussions with the government on a possible Extended Credit Facility (ECF)-supported programme.
The team arrived in the country on Sunday, three months after the Fund’s previous mission, according to Ministry of Finance spokesperson Williams Banda.
Banda said the mission is expected to engage officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), among other government institutions.
The latest talks are expected to focus on policy measures and progress made by Malawi as the government continues discussions with the IMF over a possible ECF arrangement.
The renewed engagement comes as Malawi seeks to strengthen its economic management and secure support under an IMF programme amid ongoing economic challenges.
The ECF is an IMF financing arrangement designed to provide financial assistance to countries facing prolonged balance of payments problems, alongside policy reforms aimed at restoring economic stability.
