Calls from Malawi College of Health Sciences (MCHS) students for financial support have prompted People Over Politics Foundation (PoPF) founder Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba to add six students from the institution to the foundation’s stipend programme.
The addition brings the number of beneficiaries to 150, comprising 60 students from 10 public colleges and 90 students from six public universities.
Mumba said the decision follows what he described as overwhelming requests from MCHS students who felt left out of the programme.
“Six students from MCHS will be part of college beneficiaries who will be receiving K800,000 per year, while those from university will be receiving K1.8 million per year,” he said.
Mumba announced the development on his Facebook page, welcoming MCHS students to the programme.
He said the addition of MCHS brings the number of public colleges benefiting from the programme to 10, while the number of public universities remains at six.
The universities include MUBAS, Mzuzu University, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHeS), Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) and the University of Malawi (Unima).
The programme targets less privileged students and will run for five years.
Meanwhile, PoPF is expected to be officially launched on October 2 2026 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
