Luchenza Ward Councillor Bhima Ndalama has come under fire on social media following remarks he made about UTM president Dalitso Kabambe.
Ndalama described Kabambe as “clearly desperate for the presidency”, questioning his frequent public appearances as he seeks to lead the country.
“This guy is clearly desperate for the presidency. Ndiye amapezeka kulikonse! Ati chisanzo chabwino,” Ndalama wrote.
He further claimed that Malawi had already rejected Kabambe politically, arguing that his political journey from his home village to Parliament had not gone as expected.
“Koma vuto Malawi inamukana kale. Kuyambira kwawo kumudzi mpaka pa MP, zinthu sizinamuyendere,” he said.
His comments have, however, attracted criticism from UTM member Nthanda Khumbanyiwa, who accused the councillor of attacking Kabambe instead of engaging with the issues he had raised.
Khumbanyiwa questioned Ndalama’s approach as a young community leader, saying councillors and other young leaders should critically examine political decisions and be willing to question leadership.
“You are a youth and a councillor in your community, yet you are clapping for things that are taking Malawi in the wrong direction,” Khumbanyiwa said.
She also reminded Ndalama that the two are age mates and challenged him to engage in political debate based on facts and respect rather than what she described as “blind loyalty”.
“If you want to debate, let’s debate the issues with facts and respect, not blind loyalty,” she said.
Khumbanyiwa further defended Kabambe, saying she would not remain silent while Ndalama attacked the UTM president.
