Mutharika urges Catholic Church to support Malawi’s development

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has urged the Catholic Church to continue complementing Government efforts in promoting the socio-economic development of Malawi.

Mutharika made the call in a congratulatory message to the Catholic Church as it celebrates 125 years since its permanent establishment in Malawi.

The President said the Church has played an important role in the country’s development through its involvement in key sectors such as education, healthcare, social welfare and pastoral care.

He said Government values the contribution made by the Catholic Church over the years and encouraged it to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Malawians.

Mutharika also highlighted the relationship between Government and the Church, saying his administration remains committed to safeguarding freedom of worship.

The President and the First Lady extended their congratulations to the Catholic Church on reaching the 125-year milestone.
