President Arthur Peter Mutharika has sacked Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor MacDonald Mafuta Mwale replacing him with the current Minister of Industrialization, Business, Trade and Tourism, George Partridge.
In a letter signed by Chief Secretary Justin Saidi, the president has exercised powers conferred upon him under section 89 (1)(d) of the Constitution of Malawi.
In the letter, Saidi says the appointment is with immediate effect.
The former Governor, Mafuta Mwale was appointed by the immediate past president Lazarus Chakwera in January 2025 replacing Wilson Banda who served the same portfolio from 2020 to 2025.
Mutharika has also appointed Sheikh Ishmael Afick Mtiko as the deputy advisor for Religious affairs.
