Police recover items worth millions in Chitipa

Police in Chitipa District have arrested Innocent Nyondo, 30, on suspicion that he broke into various buildings and went away with assorted items worth millions of Kwacha.

According to police records, from December 2021 to February 2022 unknown criminals had been terrorizing and committing serious breakings within the township.

During the said period, a number of houses and shops were broken into including Chitipa District Sports Office and Aunt Jane lnternational Bar.

All incidents were reported at Chitipa Police Station and the detectives initiated investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect during a sweeping exercise on 3rd November, 2022 at Imfumbo Trading Centre.

The detectives also recovered some of the stolen properties including two big omega speakers, amplifier, samsung plasma screen, toshiba laptop and 5 chairs which have already been identified by owners.

The suspect has since been charged with breaking into building and committing a felony therein.

Nyondo hails from Mwenefumbo Village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa.
