Soldiers from Malawi Defence Force headquarters, Kamuzu Barracks (KB), on Saturday scored a goal in each half to beat Mzuzu  Moyale Barracks 0–2 in a scintillating TNM Super League encounter played at the Mzuzu Stadium.

Playing before a sizeable crowd the capital city soldiers started the game on a high note and they scored the first goal with just over a minute gone through John Banda who took a long range shot that beat Macdonald Harawa in Moyale goal after the keeper had left his line.

Moyale upped the tempo thereafter but their chances were equally thwarted by Lehman Nthala in KB goals.

Brown Magaga and Raphael Phiri were the biggest culprits missing good chances for Moyale until first half ended with KB in the lead but losing Zeliat Nkhoma to an injury.

After recession, KB started what they know best, frustrating Moyale with game management tactics while relying on counter attacks, Juma Yatima, missed several chances while through on goal but made no mistake in the 58th minute when he squizzed the ball in beating Harawa on the near post after another counter attack.

KB’s mission was accomplished when Moyale looked totally frustrated for the rest of the game with defender Herbert Wayekha leading the KB defence to marshal Gastin Simkonda and Raphael Phiri who had no sight of goal in the later stages of the match.

At the end of the game, it was 0-2 to KB, a fair reflection of the match with Herbert Wayekha deservedly voted man of the match.

During post match interviews, coaches for both sides, Blessings Kawanga for KB and Prichard Mwansa for Moyale Barracks, described the game as tough but differed on the day’s tactics and luck.

“It is not easy to win games played away like this, we utilized that early chance that enabled us to settled down,” said KB assistant coach, Blessings Kawanga.

“A painful loss to KB considering how we played today, we were not lucky but we will concentrate on the two last games and finish the league in style in Blantyre,” said Moyale Barracks coach, Prichard Mwansa.

Moyale Barracks will play Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on Wednesday then wind up their 2022 TNM Super League campaign in a game against champions in the waiting room, Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday at the giant, Kamuzu Stadium.
