Malawians to protests against Chinese vendors

Malawian traders will stage nationwide demonstrations against the influx of Chinese traders in Malawi.

The local traders have accused their Chinese counterpart of unfair and non-competitive trade practices intended to kill local businesses.

The local vendors have also accused government of failing to put up measures to protect small businesses from foreign traders, a claim backed the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).

Indigenous Businesses Association of Malawi (Ibam) president Mike Mlombwa also said that despite lodging complaints by local vendors, government has failed to act on the their concerns.

Malawi  is littered with many Chinese shops selling both locally and Chinese made goods and groceries. The influx of Chinese small scale traders in cities and rural areas peaked after Malawi ditched Taiwan for the People’s Republic of China in 2008.

  1. This is just jealous, because of their failures maybe they even don’t enough capital to run their small businesses because business is like competition and we must know that everyone has the right to do any business except illegal businesses
