Tanzanian arrested for trafficking Malawian teenagers

Malawi Police officers in Karonga district have arrested a 25 year-old Tanzanian national for trafficking five Malawian teenagers to Tanzania.

human-trafficking-1-140203cAccording to Karonga Police Public Relations Officer Enock Livasoni, the man, Suwedi Mwambosi took the five children from Misuku in Chitipa but was arrested at Songwe border post in Karonga district.

“We received information from well-wishers yesterday that a certain man is trafficking five boys by using unchartered routes at the border. Following that tip-off, we found the boys and Mwambisi,” said Livasoni.

Upon interrogation, Mwambosi revealed that he took the boys in Chitipa and he wanted them to work in tobacco fields in Tanzania.

Mwambosi has since been charged with two counts of human trafficking and illegal entry and he will appear in court soon.

He hails from Alfred Mzowa village in Mbeya, Tanzania.
