Speaking during a tripartite meeting held at Kamuzu Palace, Mozambican leader Filipe Nyusi said Malawi has played a big role in helping people who are seeking refuge in the country.

Nyusi further said that his country is trying to convince people who are in Malawi to voluntarily go back to Mozambique.

The Mozambican leader urged Malawi to help the former Portueguese colony by providing the number of people currently seeking refuge in the country as the numbers are said to be increasing each passing day.

A recent assessment by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed that the country had 10,000 Mozambican asylum-seekers who are fleeing clashes between government forces and opposition troops.

Since mid-April, UNHCR has been transferring Mozambicans refugees from Nsanje district to Luwani camp in Mwanza district.
