The trouble Malawi vice president Saulos Chilima got himself in over the weekend at the Malawi Law Society (MLS) annual general meeting refuses to leave the assumed brightest star in the DPP leading team.
Hours after the opposition Peoples’ Party (PP) called the veep to order over his remarks that some Malawians are idiots, renowned lawyer David Kanyenda has joined the fray that is grinding the veep.
In a late night Facebook post that Kanyenda made, he faulted the veep for taking along with him DPP cadres at an event that was not political in nature.
“Chilima has been touted as a reformist but I have my reservations,” Kanyenda said of the veep who was the guest of honour at the event.
” We are all accustomed to the lack of distinction between apolitical &political events.Certainly the MLS AGM falls neatly into the former category.It was supposed to be a purely non partisan event . However Chilima acquiesced to the attendance of hordes of DPP praiseworshipers at the event.The party functionaries either equalled or outnumbered the delegates to the AGM.What I witnessed on Saturday smacked of the ‘business as usual’ attitude from the supposed reformist,” posted Kanyenda questioning why the veep had chosen to act like his predecessors and boss.
He further indicated that Chilima’s self glorifying attitude of looking at himself as a record breaking veep for attending the event was misplaced.
“Cheekily the VP declared he had made history of being the first VP or politician to be Guest of Honour at our AGM,” said Kanyenda.
He finished off his shot by faulting the veep for his ‘idiot’ remarks.

I think I heard correctly from people who were at the MLS AGm that the Vice President referred to people who pretend that they are experts in analysing issues when they are making it worse as idiots and that he advised the MLS to disown such people let us not get sentimental in confusing the people unless we shall be the idiots ourselves
